Biography
August Ruckdeschel is a public-sector planning, zoning, economic development, and sustainability professional focused on turning policy goals into practical, community-centered projects. As Deputy Planning and Zoning Coordinator for the Village of Patchogue, he helps guide development, modernize local codes, support downtown vitality, and advance climate resilience and clean energy initiatives. Through Patchogue’s Climate Smart Task Force, he works on climate adaptation, emissions reduction, public outreach, and municipal strategies designed to build trust and deliver measurable results. His recent work with the Long Island Clean Energy Hub has helped connect communities, residents, and stakeholders with energy-efficiency resources and clean energy opportunities. Earlier, he led work in farmland and open space preservation, agriculture, aquaculture, food policy, grant development, and regional economic development for Suffolk County. A former Long Island vegetable farmer, August brings practical land-use experience, policy fluency, and a grounded understanding of what communities need to support lasting, equitable infrastructure investment.
