Biography
Brandon Owens is Vice President of Innovation at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, where he directs one of the nation’s largest clean energy innovation portfolios, spanning power generation, energy storage, hydrogen, advanced buildings, grid modernization, and emerging digital infrastructure. Owens has spent more than three decades at the intersection of energy markets, engineering systems, corporate strategy, and public policy. He has held leadership roles at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, General Electric, and S&P Global, advising executives, investors, utilities, and policymakers on energy-system transformation, infrastructure investment, and market design. He is the founder of AIxEnergy, a strategic intelligence platform examining how artificial intelligence is reshaping electricity demand, grid reliability, infrastructure constraints, and industrial competitiveness. Owens is the author of The Wind Power Story and The Cognitive Grid. His work focuses on the timing, system interactions, and operational uncertainty that increasingly determine infrastructure outcomes.
