Biography
Dr. James Misewich joined Brookhaven National Laboratory in 2002 and is Associate Laboratory Director for Energy and Photon Sciences, overseeing energy R&D from discovery through technology deployment. The Directorate encompasses Chemistry, Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science, Energy Storage, and two DOE national user facilities: the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) and Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN). He organized and oversees the DOE Co-Design Center for Quantum Advantage and has represented Brookhaven on New York State energy consortia.
He is also Professor of Physics at Stony Brook University, where he teaches and conducts research in strongly correlated electron physics and quantum information science.
Previously, he spent 20 years at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center, contributing to laser science, correlated electron materials, and nanoscience. He earned his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1983 and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and Optical Society of America.
