Biography
Dr. Kathleen Araújo, leading expert in energy system transitions, policy and infrastructure resilience, researches critical priorities across the energy sector, from regional hub development and sustainability to safeguarding systems against disruption.
She is the author of Low Carbon Energy Transitions: Turning Points in National Policy and Innovation and editor of the Routledge Handbook of Energy Transitions, which was named Best Edited Volume by the American Energy Society. Her contributions to the field earned her recognition as a Presidential Innovator in 2023.
Dr. Araújo leads major externally funded research initiatives, including a national consortium advising the U.S. Department of Energy on consent-based siting for spent nuclear fuel and integrated nuclear waste management. She also serves as a project lead for a $24 million NSF-State grant evaluating energy-water system resilience. In addition to her research and cross-sectoral advisory work, she teaches courses on energy and technology policy, as well as decarbonization.
